Which is better for listening?

Both use real French with interactive subtitles, at different lengths. Lingopie is a streaming app of TV shows and films: tap any word for a translation and save it for review. FluentU teaches with short real videos such as film scenes, TV clips and music videos, each with interactive subtitles and quizzes. Whole episodes train you to follow longer conversations; short clips are easier to study closely.

Which is better for beginners?

FluentU, slightly. It has beginner courses with original content and covers A1 to C1. Lingopie does not teach you French from scratch and is most useful from about A2 or B1.

Which is cheaper?

Lingopie, on the yearly plans. Lingopie is €12.99 a month or €77.94 a year (standard €155.88) after a 7-day free trial. FluentU Plus is $29.99 a month or $239.99 a year ($143.99 on the promotion we saw), after a 14-day free trial.

Which works with Netflix and YouTube?

FluentU. Its Chrome extension adds the same interactive subtitles to Netflix and YouTube. Lingopie works with its own library of shows and films.

Which is better for intermediate learners?

Lingopie, if you will really watch French TV most evenings. Whole shows give you the long stretches of real speech that short clips do not, but a show you half understand is entertainment unless you stop and review.

Can you use both?

You can, but they do a similar job and both are subscriptions. Try both free trials back to back and keep the one you actually opened every day.

What neither does

Neither teaches you to speak or gives you a person to talk to, and neither is a full course. Both depend on you doing the work of pausing, saving and reviewing. Add a tutor or exchange partner for speaking, and something structured for grammar.
