Lingopie alternatives: paid and free

The best Lingopie alternatives are LingQ if you want podcasts and articles as well as video, FluentU if you prefer short clips with quizzes, and free YouTube channels and podcasts if you want real speech without paying; which one fits depends on why Lingopie did not.

If you want more than TV

LingQ works with podcasts, articles, books and video, each with audio and text, and lets you save unknown words as you go. It suits learners who want to read and listen to a lot of real material, not only watch. There is a free account; Premium was $14.99 a month or $119.99 a year on the US App Store, checked 9 October 2026. See Lingopie vs LingQ.

If you want shorter clips with exercises

FluentU uses real video, from film scenes to music videos, with clickable subtitles and quizzes on the words you meet, and a Chrome extension for Netflix and YouTube. Plus was $29.99 a month or $239.99 a year ($143.99 on the promotion we saw) on fluentu.com/pricing, checked 9 October 2026, after a 14-day free trial. It costs more than Lingopie. See FluentU vs Lingopie.

If you want it free

YouTube channels that film ordinary people in the street, with subtitles in the language and in English, give you real speech for nothing; Easy French is one well-known example. You lose Lingopie's click-to-translate tools but keep the real speech.

Podcasts give you hours of listening on a walk or a commute. With no picture to lean on, your ear does all the work. Pick a show where you follow about two thirds without the transcript, and listen to each episode twice.

Which should you choose?

If Lingopie felt too narrow and you want to read as well as listen, choose LingQ.

If whole episodes felt too long and you want exercises built in, choose FluentU, on the yearly promotion rather than monthly.

If the price was the problem, go free with YouTube and podcasts, and accept that you lose the subtitle tools.

If Lingopie felt too hard, that usually means the level, not the app. Drop back to a course or content made for learners, and return to TV at B1. For reference, Lingopie itself was €12.99 a month or €77.94 a year on offer (standard €155.88) on lingopie.com/pricing, checked 9 October 2026; see Lingopie pricing.
