Is Lingopie worth it?

Lingopie is worth it if you are at about B1, will watch TV in the language you are learning most evenings and pay yearly, which on the offer we saw on 9 October 2026 came to €77.94 a year (about €6.50 a month); it is not worth it for a beginner, or for anyone who will open it twice a month.

Checked October 2026 · Lingopie price: €12.99/mo; 3 months €38.97; annual €77.94 (standard €155.88); lifetime €219; 7-day free trial (checked 2026-10-09 (lingopie.com/pricing))

When it pays off

Lingopie's value is hours of real-speed speech with help to follow it: tap any word in the subtitles for a translation and save it for review. If you watch three or four episodes a week and replay the lines you miss, that is more real listening than most learners do in a month on a course app.

It pays off most for learners who can read the language but cannot follow it spoken. That gap closes with hours of listening to real speech, and Lingopie makes those hours easy to get.

When it does not

If you are a beginner: you will understand too little, and the subtitles become reading practice rather than listening.

If you will not watch: a subscription you open twice a month is the most expensive way to learn anything.

If you want structure: Lingopie has no grammar and no path. Pair it with a course, or choose one from our online courses page.

Which plan, and what it costs

On lingopie.com/pricing, checked 9 October 2026: monthly €12.99, worth it for a first month if the 7-day trial is not enough to decide. Three months is €38.97, the same rate as monthly. The annual plan at €77.94 (standard €155.88) is the best value if you are sure. Lifetime at €219 pays off after about two years and ten months against the annual offer, or about a year and five months against the standard annual price. See Lingopie pricing.

Which should you choose?

If you are B1 or above and watch TV most evenings, take the 7-day trial, then the annual plan.

If you prefer short clips with quizzes, FluentU does that but costs more: Plus was $239.99 a year ($143.99 on promotion), checked 9 October 2026. See FluentU vs Lingopie.

If you want podcasts and articles as well as video, LingQ Premium was $119.99 a year on the US App Store, checked 9 October 2026. See Lingopie vs LingQ.

If you are still a beginner, start with a course and come back to Lingopie at B1.

Who it's for

Learners at B1 or above, or a confident A2, who watch TV anyway and want to swap some of it for the language they are learning, with a replay and review habit. Lingopie for French looks at one catalogue in detail.

Who it's not for

Beginners, learners who do not watch TV, and anyone who wants a course. For them, a course app such as Busuu or Babbel first, Lingopie later.
