Duolingo's help centre says charges are generally nonrefundable and there are no refunds for partly used periods, but you can still ask: Apple decides iPhone purchases, and Duolingo support reviews web and Android requests. Cancel first, then ask, and do it soon after the charge.
Checked October 2026 · Duolingo price: Free; Super from $9.99/mo or $79.99/yr (checked 2026-10-06 (US App Store))
If you paid on iPhone or iPad
Duolingo's help centre is clear that Apple handles refunds for Super bought on an Apple device, not Duolingo. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with the Apple ID that paid, choose Request a refund, pick a reason and select the Duolingo charge. Apple says to expect an update within 24 to 48 hours. If you cannot find the charge, search your email for the receipt from Apple to see which account was billed.
If you paid on Android
Duolingo's help centre asks Android subscribers to contact Duolingo support, choose Purchase Issue from the drop-down and say in the message that you need a refund. Google Play's own help pages say that within 48 hours of a purchase you may be able to get a refund through Google Play; after 48 hours you contact the developer, which here means Duolingo.
If you paid on the website
Sign in on duolingo.com, click the Super icon at the top of the home screen, scroll to the bottom and choose the option to contact support. Send the email and say plainly that you want a refund for your web subscription; Duolingo says a member of its support team will review it. Include the date and amount of the charge.
Cancel first, or it charges again
A refund request does not stop the subscription, and cancelling does not refund anything: Duolingo's help centre says cancelling will not retroactively refund payments and fees cannot be prorated. Cancel where you subscribed, in the app under Super, Settings, Manage subscription, or on the web under Settings, Super Duolingo. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel. Your streak and progress stay, and you keep Super to the end of the period. Step by step: how to cancel Duolingo Super.
All of the above is from Duolingo's help centre (duolingo.com/help) and Apple's and Google's refund pages, read on 9 October 2026.
Why people ask, and what to do next
In the 1,551 Duolingo reviews we read on the App Store and Google Play, 444 were one or two stars and 102 of those were about price, subscriptions or cancelling. A common thread was a free trial that turned into a paid year before the person noticed.
If you are leaving Super, you have not lost the course: Duolingo is free without it. If you are leaving Duolingo for French altogether, look at what it was not giving you. For a more serious course, see Babbel vs Duolingo or Busuu vs Duolingo. For real listening and speaking, start with Duolingo alternatives for French.
Who it's for
Anyone charged for Super Duolingo or Duolingo Max who did not mean to keep it, most often after a free trial rolled into a paid plan.
Who it's not for
People who simply want to stop paying from now on. That is a cancellation, not a refund, and it takes a minute; see how to cancel Duolingo Super.
