Praktika is worth it if you want to speak a language out loud for a few minutes every day and will pay yearly, which on the US App Store lists from $119.99 (checked 9 October 2026); it is not worth it as your only course, or for anyone who wants corrections from a real person.

What you get

Praktika is an AI tutor app. You talk out loud with an animated tutor that listens, replies and corrects your pronunciation and grammar as you go. Its App Store listing names 13 languages, more than 1,000 lessons for travel, work and everyday conversation, role-plays, and lessons built from your own photos, PDFs or voice notes. Beginners can have the tutor explain things in their own language.

When it pays off

Speaking is the skill most learners never practise, because it needs another person. Praktika removes that: no booking, no nerves, five minutes at the bus stop. If you can already build simple sentences, at about A2, daily spoken practice with instant feedback is worth more than another month of tapping answers. At $119.99 a year it costs about $10 a month, less than many single tutor lessons: italki says its French tutors charge $4 to $60 an hour (checked 9 October 2026).

When it does not

The AI is patient and predictable. Real speech is fast, slurred and full of interruptions, and Praktika does not train you to follow that. It is also not a course: there is no grammar path to work through, so beginners still need one.

Reviewers raise the same two points. In 971 Google Play reviews we read, 316 were one or two stars: 105 were about the AI or the quality of its content, and 103 about price or subscriptions, often the free version stopping sooner than expected or a trial that needed a card first.

Which plan

The US App Store lists Premium at $9.99 for a month, $49.99 for three months and $119.99 or $139.99 for a year, with lower promotional prices shown at times (checked 9 October 2026). Try the free version first and pay yearly only if you are still opening it after a week. Cancel in your Apple or Google subscriptions; deleting the app does not stop the plan.

Which should you choose?

If you are at A2 or above and want to talk every day without booking anyone, Praktika is good value on the yearly plan.
